Letter From the Executive Director

I had a debilitating stroke about 10 years ago. After a long hospitalization I was called (literally) to the Earth.

About a year later, I saw a clear need and came out with the Lowell Canalwaters Cleaners, got a great group of dedicated, hard working Volunteers, and we began to clean up. The rest is, as they say, history. But we are constantly looking for Volunteers to help out on our cleaning days, so I would ask you to come out and support us in this endeavor. You'll meet some great people, and make a difference to the Earth.

As a direct result of our cleaning, we've been harrassed by the owner of the canals, to the point were my reputation was being trashed as a 'radical activist' to scare away our partners, and we were forced to cancel some cleanups. There's even a rumor around that I have a warrent issued for my arrest simply for cleaning up their property!

For some years, I've been saying that the solutions to the Earths problems don't lie with the government or big business. Big organizations exist simply to continue to exist, period. It's the 'little people' like us who have to step up and save the Earth. WE have to do it! You can make a big difference simply by doing the simple, Earth friendly actions that will remediate our problems (reduce, reuse, recycle, and clean up).

Having said that, I'd like to thank all the Volunteers, donors, and sponsors. We've had Volunteers come from as far away as Long Island; Major donations from as far as Arizona; and good wishes and a great vibe from across the sea in England!

Please do your part!

Thanks!

Bill Moreau
