Riverfest
On June 12th, between 12 - 5, be at the Concord Greenway as Lowell participates in Riverfest. There will be artists, booths, and music. A Concord artist will be on hand to design one of his trash monuments at the site. He'll be using all the different trash we've picked up this year. We're also doing demonstrations of our technique in getting the hard to reach trash.
Corporate Cleanups
This year on Earth Day, Metabolix turned out the office and had everyone work the canals. It was a great day, from the weather, the fellowship, and the amount of trash cleaned out of the water. Thanks!
Ball Wall
On a gorgeous Sunday, the dozens of balls we've rescued from the canals made their way onto the 'Ball Wall' in Harmony Park next to St. Patrick's.
The neighborhood and lots of artists made the installation fun when they all turned out. Our thanks go to Jerry Beck and his Revolving Museum as well as artist Danny O who made the 'Ball Wall'.
Please stop by and look at what can be done on a small plot of land in your neighborhood.
Thanks to the Massachusetts Environmental Trust and LHS Headmaster Samaras and LHS teacher James Callahan
The Massachusetts Environmental Trust (you've seen their sponsored plates on cars - get one!) granted us the money to give Lowell High School all the equipment and supplies needed to clean up thier property as well as Lucy Larkum Park. The students will learn quite a bit from serving as Stewards of their little piece of the earth. Our thanks to the administration, especially Headmaster Samaras and teacher James Callahan for making this gift happen!
Thanks to The Lowell Community Health Clinic
The Lowell Community Health Clinic, which is located on the Western Canal, is teaming up with Bristol, Myers, and Squibb employees (along with the Lowell National Park and Lowell Canalwaters Cleaners) to help clean up the Western Canal.
Thanks to Renaissance Condominiums
The residents have become Stewards of the Riverwalk! With the help of Keep Lowell Beautiful and Lowell Canalwaters Cleaners, these citizen Stewards have organized themselves and gone out to clean the Riverwalk. They are full of Lowell Pride!
Education Initative
We've succeeded with our Education Outreach Initiative Due to the efforts of TJ McCarthy, one of the Board of Directors for LCC, we've got into the high school starting next fall. All the organizations that have an interest in the environmental education have joined the LCC as a coalition. Jim Callahan, a teacher, will be heading this important initiative. If you have any questions, thoughts, or programs for the high school, please bubble them up! (03/2007)
Other News
As usual, we're looking for money to keep our web site, and improve communication throughout the organization. Anybody have a great idea? I'd like to hear from you! (03/2007)
Lowell Canalwaters Cleaners won the National Historical Park Service Award for Volunteer Organizations. Thanks to all of our dedicated Volunteers!
Please check out the storiy about us in Granny Buttons, an English site which specializes on canals.
Congratulations to our new Volunteers! Thank You!
Green Drinks
The Green Drinks event was a success. Volunteers bought their own drinks, but signed up with local enviromental organizations. A great evening!
